Seaspray’s Guardian Home Program
•There is NO cost for you to become a guardian home for one of our puppies! Some breeders charge a fee up to $500.00 to become a Guardian Home - Seaspray does not charge anything!
•Seaspray pays for all the food for your puppy/dog until the contract is completed.
•Seaspray pays for all the health testing of the puppy to determine if it will qualify to become a breeder.
•Seaspray pays for your puppy/dog to be groomed once a month. We want your puppy/dog to look its best always!
•We pay the Guardian family $500 each time a girl has a litter for Seaspray.
Not all Guardian Home programs are equal - compare ours before you commit. Don't miss out!
Our Guardian Home program has been established to give one or two of our breeding dogs their very own home and family to love while still having or siring puppies for us. When their time for parenthood is over, they continue to live with their family as they have since the beginning.
First, all Guardian Home Dogs must pass their extensive health testing - if they do not, they are spayed or neutered and become the loving pet that they are for their family. If they do pass all their health testing, then we continue with the program.
For the girls, they usually begin parenthood when they are approximately 18 months old - but Mother nature controls the timing so we have to be flexible. Their cycle usually lasts 3 weeks and they usually cycle every 6 months. This means that the Guardian Family may be without their girl for 8 weeks each time she is having her puppies once she has passed all her health testing. After she has had 3 to 5 litters but definitely before she is 6 years old, she will be spayed and continue to live with her Family as their loving pet. There are some Guardian Families that want their girls to whelp and raise the puppies at their home - and this can be discussed.
Puppies
For the boys, the program is much different. They can begin their Parenthood around the age of one year. The time away from their family is usually only 3 days each time they are needed. However, they may be needed much more often. The timing for a breeding must be precise, so there can be short notice to the Guardian Family. We try to accommodate everyone the best we can. Sometimes, the boy will probably come to my home to accommodate the girl. Sometimes, the boy will be "collected" and his semen shipped to the girl. His career can last up to the age of 6 years or more.
Seaspray will pay for all the Health Testing necessary to determine if the dog will be eligible to breed, all the food, and grooming once a month, as well as Vet visits for serious illness. The Guardian Family will be responsible for "well" vet visits, yearly vaccinations, teeth cleaning, flea and tick medications and to transport the Guardian dog to all Vet visits.
The Guardian family is responsible to give the dog the proper exercise, which will involve walking the dog, and socialization of the dog, as well as attending our monthly Doodle Day.
This is just a short synopsis of what will be included in a Guardian Contract. If you are still interested in continuing to investigate our Guardian Home Program, please plan to attend the next Doodle Day. After that, we can schedule an interview for you. You will find the dates on our web site. You must make a reservation to attend Doodle Day with Leslie in our office by emailing Leslie@SeasprayAL or phoning her at
