So you want to become a Guardian for a Seaspray or True Blue
Puppy???
Seaspray and True Blue Australian Labradoodles are searching for new guardian homes for our current and upcoming litters. We will be keeping back puppies in all three sizes (miniature, medium and standard). We will be placing both male and female puppies into guardian homes. There is NO charge for a puppy placed in our Guardian Homes. It is an exciting opportunity!
If you would like to be considered as a future guardian home, here is some information for you:
To be considered for a guardian home position, you must have a fenced yard.
You must own your own home.
You must reside in FL year round.
You must reside within a reasonable distance of St. Pete Beach or Lady Lake, FL.
We prefer that one or more adults are home with the puppy during the day (we do not permit our dogs to be left outside, unsupervised, at any time).
You must commit to continue to train, exercise and socialize the Australian Labradoodle in your care.
If you comply with these requirements, then the first step is to contact Leslie at Leslie@seasprayal.com and complete the adoption application on our website. State that you are interested in becoming a guardian on the form. No deposit is necessary. If your adoption application is approved, we perform a residential check. After passing the residential check, we require three personal references along with the contact information for your past or current veterinarian.
We require our guardians to have no criminal record and a clean driving record.
Guardian families are required to transport their Australian Labradoodle to attend Doodle Day which is held in St. Pete Beach or St. Petersburg. The event is held 4-6 times a year. It is always held on a Saturday, from 10:00 AM until noon. You obviously must have Saturday mornings free in order to attend Doodle Day with your guardian dog.
We pay for all health testing for breeding. The Guardian is responsible to provide transportation for the health testing. The guardian dog comes back to us for breeding and whelping. You are required to provide transportation if need be. Most breedings occur in Lady Lake, FL.
We keep the mothers with their puppies for 8 weeks, so the total time your guardian dog away from home while 'working' is 9 weeks at a time. We do not allow the guardian family to visit when the dog has her first litter as it is an adjustment period for them. When they have their second litter, we allow the guardian family to visit the dog when she is raising her family. By the second litter they understand the routine of being a mum. We usually breed our dogs 3-4 times, depending on the size of the litters (a "litter" is considered 3 or more puppies) and the health of the female. When the contract is complete, we pay to have the dog spayed or neutered and transfer all ownership papers over to the guardian family. There is no cost to the guardian family.
We provide flea and tick medication and heart worm medication on an annual basis. We provide the initial training through the Puppy Head Start training program, at no cost to you, so that your guardian puppy arrives "home" with good canine manners at 11 weeks of age.
The guardian family is responsible for maintaining the wellness of their Australian Labradoodle, which include yearly vaccinations, regular and routine grooming, and teeth cleaning. The guardian is required to purchase a high quality dry dog food (Orijen or Life's Abundance) for their guardian Australian Labradoodle and provide canned food for pregnant dogs for them to gain sufficient weight to maintain a pregnancy.
